Steve Kraft - Lead Instructor
Steve started his full time firefighting career in 1988. Throughout his career he has held many positions including firefighter, Company Officer, Platoon Chief, Deputy Chief of Operations, Deputy Chief of Support Services and Fire Chief.
Currently Steve is a Platoon Chief (Shift Commander) for Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services. Steve leads A-Shift and oversees approximately 160 full time firefighters who work out of 21 fire stations.
Professionally, Steve has completed the Certificate in Fire Service Leadership Program though Dalhousie University, graduated from the Fire Protection Technologist program offered by the Ontario Fire College, and he has completed his Masters Certificate in Municipal Leaders through York University. Steve also attended Western University and successfully completed their Public Administration Program. Steve has also completed many National Fire Protection Association courses including, but not limited to Fire Officer I, II, III, and IV, Safety Officer, and Fire Instructor II.
Throughout Steve’s career he has been published in two separate firefighting magazines: Fire Engineering and Fire Fighting in Canada. He has also had the privilege of speaking at several firefighting conferences throughout Ontario, including being the only Canadian keynote presenter at North America’s Fire Department Instructor Conference (FDIC) held in Indianapolis each year.
Steve continues to be very active in the Fire Service as a Full Time Platoon Chief (Shift Commander.) When he’s not working at the fire department he is usually mentoring other firefighters and teaching courses on Leadership/Management and Incident Command.
